At the end of a year no one will ever forget, it was nice to finish on a high at Pichelmann Custom Building. Our team took out two of the most prestigious awards offered by the Master Builders Association for the ACT and surrounding region.

The first award went to Eugene for Emerging Residential Builder of the Year, largely for his work on the Vasey Crs Project. This unique award isn’t guaranteed to be part of the awards system each year, but rather it is only awarded in years when the judging committee feel there is an appropriate candidate. It’s with this in mind that it is also worth looking back to 2008 when Parry won the same award – surely a good omen.

The second award went to the team that worked on the Vasey Crs project, which won Custom Built/Project Home over $2million, also known as the Open Category. The level of detail and precision that the team and surrounding trades demonstrated on this project is what ensured it was delivered to the incredibly standard that it was. Everyone at Pichelmann felt like they had contributed to this project – a true team effort.

After a challenging year it was a great way to bring things to a close and the entire team is looking forward to the challenges and hopefully the successes that 2021 will bring as well as delivering more projects of this calibre.

What a truly humbling and privileged experience we have had working with the volunteer BlazeAid organisation at Cobargo last weekend.

We arrived not really knowing what to expect, just willing to help. What we experienced was incredible ! To be given the opportunity to help and interact wth families that have lost and suffered so much and yet were so appreciative and warm but still very fragile was something that is really hard to describe.

BlazeAid organisation - You guys are fantastic! You are all volunteers working incredible hours to help us volunteer our time to the farmers! You are the Australian spirit on steroids.

I'd personally like to thank our crew - My wife Meike, Eugene, Tom, Steve and his beautiful family, my daughter Lilly, Kien, Jack, Peter, Tim, Jeremy, Justin, Ryley, Brian, Kyle, Mike and Megan.

Also like to thank Erick and his crazy Brazilian mates who went to the Adelong BlazeAid site to help there as well!

We are all looking forward to going to Cobargo again in early April and swelling our numbers to more than 40!.

January of 2020 saw the Pichelmann team launch the year with commencement of Pichelmann Maintenance and Minor works (PMMW) and Steve Swift coming on board as a director. We began working on this project in 2019 after realising that we were struggling to keep up with the demand for all the small jobs we were being asked to do by past clients, their friends and family because we were the only ones they trusted to do it properly, regardless of our minor they were. It was with this conundrum that we decided to take the step of setting up a dedicated arm of the business to solely focus on these types of jobs, and give all clients the time and energy that they all deserve.

Steve has long been a member of the Pichelmann team, known as someone with a knack for solving the seemingly impossible, as a leader on site, and as someone with a wide and varied range of experience. His friendly and approachable nature has made him the perfect person to run PMMW and maintain the valued relationships we have with all of our clients. His vision and drive for this new venture will certainly have positive outcomes for all his new clients and those working with him to make this a success.

After winning its category at the master builders regional awards in June, we were thrilled to receive a national award nomination for our renovation project in Hawker. This years national awards were held at the stunning Field of Lights in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Tom and Eugene attended, with Parry and Meike inconveniently galivanting around New Zealand at the time, giving the younger leaders of Pichelmann a chance rub shoulders with industry big-wigs from around the country. Unfortunately, taking home an award was not to be, but the whole team was very proud to have been nominated regardless, with Tom particularly delighted to have seen one of his first projects gain so much well deserved recognition.

Master builder Awards

This years awards saw us have three projects nominated for the hotly contested Master Builders association industry awards for the Canberra region.

  • Garran residence – custom built home $1m - $2m
  • Reid Residence – heritage renovation
  • Hawker residence – renovation $450k - $1m

With an exceptionally high quality group of entrants, we were verry proud to have taken home an award with the Hawker residence winning its category and also winning a national award nomination!

The awards night its self was a fantastic night enjoyed by a great number of the Pichelmann team along with all the other people in our industry whom we love to work alongside.
